Thelma Gray Memorial Championship Show
The Queen's Trophy for the Best Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)
The Secretary, Mrs. Lesley Mackness arranged for the current and past
winners of
The Queen's Trophy for the Best Welsh Corgi (Pembroke),
to meet Her Majesty The Queen at Government House Adelaide, on Wednesday
27 February 2002.
Although there have been many more winners of The Queen's Trophy, it was
the Dog who was invited,
so unfortunately the owners of former winning dogs who had died, were
not invited to attend.
Also presented to Her Majesty were Mr. Bill Godfrey, President and Mr.
Jeremy Gray (Thelma's Son)

Brief History
In 1980 after disastrous
bush fires in the Adelaide Hills, the home to
many dog people, and the co-operation and assistance one to the other
which arose during those days, a number of people decided to form The
Adelaide Hills Kennel Club. One of those founding Members was the late
Mrs Thelma Gray.
Mrs Gray was an English Dog Breeder and Judge who had settled in the
Adelaide Hills, but more importantly to the Palace, she was the Breeder
of their Welsh Corgis (Pembroke) and was closely involved with the
breeding and selection of the Buckingham Palace Corgis for the whole
Royal Family and was a personal friend of The Queen and the Royal
Family until her death in 1984.
In 1985, after the death of Mrs Gray in November 1984, our Club
decided to have a second Championship Show each year and this was named
The Thelma Gray Memorial Show, which continues today.
In January 1986 Her Majesty made a generous donation to our Club (in
memory of the late Mrs Thelma Gray) and this was used to purchase a
Silver Tray (known as The Queen's Trophy) which is presented to the
Best of Breed Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) at our Thelma Gray Memorial Show
held in February each year.
